Kimella Umeh — instructional designer, educator, and writer

I build experiences that engage learners and improve performance by combining instructional design principles with personalized support, creative storytelling, and modern learning technologies.

Who I Am

Who I Am

I'm Ogechukwu Umeh, fondly known as Kimella, a versatile educational professional and writer who blends a background in teaching and instructional design with creative and marketing pursuits.

I work primarily in Instructional Design, Learning & Development (L&D), and as an educator who deeply enjoys exploring minds through teaching. I've designed learning programs for organizations like KairosBridge and Men in DeFi, and I'm always open to developing impacting learning programs and curriculums for schools, organizations and emerging technologies.

I once worked at Doveland International School, Abuja, where I designed English language and writing lessons, and coached students through a whole-school creative writing project, that was later published in the school's archive.

I'm an adept thinker with a balance of analytical and creative thinking. I have an eye that sees value and opportunity in every resource, and that has greatly helped me to solve problems in unique ways.

My Journey

How I Got Here

My background in Library and Information Science has shaped how I approach research and organize information. It taught me that nothing is truly hidden, and nothing is hard to find; we simply need to know where to look.

My love for the human mind took me to the classroom, where I discovered that learning is dependent on several factors and dispositions. I watched a child who hated copying notes excel at playing a musical instrument, and another who couldn't stay put during lessons teach her classmates how to make a ladybird out of paper. These observations got me deeply interested in researching the science behind learning, something I still do in my free time.

My wild curiosity and fascination for everything has led me into exploring different fields, including Web3 and AI Learning Design. In Web3, I worked on technical articles, lite papers, and case studies.

In AI Learning Design, I've built projects like Get Fired Up, a five-module microlearning course on charcoal grilling designed with Claude. You can explore it here:

And beyond education, I handle roles in branding, content, and marketing strategy.

Published Works

Creative & Published Works

I'm working on my debut novel, Kalifa, which explores how betrayal narrows a person to either self-destruction or self-forgiveness. I also write personal essays on life and work on Substack.

I publish several self-guided resources and creative projects via the e-commerce platform Selar:

Broke Minds

A wild, intense poetry collection and musings centered around themes of money and love.

Fleeting Happiness

A collection of short poems capturing emotional highs and lows, reminding readers to appreciate momentary joy.

How To Write Captions That Sell

A beginner-friendly copywriting e-book tailored to help startup businesses craft engaging product captions.

Looking Ahead

What's Next

Currently, I'm expanding my skill set in Learning Design, and I'm open to roles in education, learning, and development.

Alongside, I'm envisioning BREDit, a school with the long-term goal of raising learners as problem-solvers, not job-seekers, grounded in an experiential approach to learning. It's where I hope to bring everything I believe about how people actually learn into one place, and I'm at the very start of that journey.
