BREDit is an emerging educational vision — one built around the long-term goal of reimagining how we educate, from nursery through tertiary. It asks a simple question with complex implications: what happens when education prioritizes agency, problem-solving, and real-world thinking over rote learning and credential-chasing?
Founded by Kimella Umeh, BREDit is not yet a fully operational institution. It's a developing initiative — a framework for what education could become when it centres the learner as a thinker, creator, and problem-solver.
The Principles Behind BREDit
Learning Is Built, Not Received
BREDit is grounded in constructivist learning theory — the idea that learners construct knowledge through experience, reflection, and active engagement. Instead of passively absorbing information, learners in a BREDit-modelled environment would build understanding by doing.
Real Problems, Real Learning
Abstract concepts become meaningful when connected to real-world challenges. BREDit envisions a learning environment where students encounter genuine problems — not textbook exercises — and develop the thinking skills to address them.
Beyond Employment
The conventional model prepares students for jobs. BREDit asks: what if we prepared them to create solutions? Entrepreneurial education doesn't mean every student starts a business — it means every student learns to identify problems, think critically, and take initiative.
The Learner at the Centre
A BREDit-model education places the learner at the centre of every decision. What are they curious about? How do they learn best? What problems do they want to solve? The curriculum adapts to the learner, not the other way around.
A Long-Term Vision
BREDit isn't designed for one age group. The vision spans from the earliest years of learning through to tertiary education — a coherent philosophy applied across every stage of a learner's development.
Producing Problem-Solvers, Not Job-Seekers
What if the purpose of school wasn’t to prepare students for an exam, but to prepare them for the problems the world hasn’t solved yet?
BREDit is Kimella's answer to that question. It's an educational vision still taking shape — informed by her background in learning science, instructional design, and a deep belief that education can be fundamentally better than what most students currently experience.
This is a developing initiative. There is no launch date, no campus, and no enrollment. What exists is a clear philosophical foundation, a growing body of research and design work, and a commitment to turning this vision into reality.
